In June of this year, the FAA announced a new national policy regarding regulatory compliance and enforcement. The policy, issued in the form of mandatory Order 8000.373 entitled “Federal Aviation Administration Compliance Philosophy,” received little attention. The aviation industry should be aware of it because it has significant implications for repair stations, charter operators, individual pilots and mechanics, as well as all other regulated entities.

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) was created in the aftermath of 9/11 by the Aviation and Transportation Security Act (ATSA), passed by the U.S. Congress and signed on Nov. 19, 2001.

The Homeland Security Act of 2002 transferred TSA from the Department of Transportation to the newly created Department of Homeland Security.

TSA’s stated mission is to “protect the Nation’s transportation systems to ensure freedom of movement for people and commerce.”

FAA Issues Final Rule on Certification of Airports
