FAA PROPOSES OVERHAUL TO AVIATION MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN SCHOOL REGULATIONS

Summary. The FAA is asking for comments to a supplemental notice of proposed rulemaking regarding aviation maintenance technician education. In 2015, the FAA proposed changes to its Aviation Maintenance Technical School (AMTS) regulations, but did not finalize the rules at that time. Comments to the 2015 rulemaking convinced the FAA to evaluate, expand, and re-issue its proposal.

In a rulemaking that takes effect immediately, lithium batteries are not permitted as cargo on passenger aircraft. Additionally, lithium batteries may not be shipped at more than a 30% charge when aboard cargo-only aircraft, and alternative provisions for carriage of small lithium batteries are limited to one package per consignment.

The 2018 Fact Book provides a comprehensive resource of data for aircraft, operations, airports, as well as on the agency budget, personnel, and resources. Points of contact for various FAA divisions and regions are also provided.
