TSA ENFORCEMENT ACTIONS TAKEN IN 2012

Last week, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) issued its annual summary for calendar year 2012 of all enforcement actions taken by TSA under the authority granted in the implementing recommendations of the 9/11 Commission Act of 2007 for violations of surface transportation requirements and requirements related to transportation worker identification credentials (TWIC).  (49 U.S.C. § 114(v). Under delegated authority from the Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, TSA may impose civil penalties of up to $10,000 per violation.

In 2012, TSA took 27 enforcement actions against railroads, transit authorities, and trucking companies.  Penalties ranged from warning notices and letters of correction to fines of up to $50,000.
