REALIGNMENT OF THE FAA’S FLIGHT STANDARD SERVICE
On August 20, 2017, Flight Standards transitioned its structure from the geography-based regional structure to a functional structure which aligns Flight Standards in four areas: Air Carrier Safety Assurance, General Aviation Safety Assurance, Safety Standards, and Foundational Business. The legacy regional structure no longer exists in Flight Standards.
Purpose. This realignment allows for better response to needs with greater agility, efficiency, and consistency as well as improvement of performance in several areas including, Accountability to Flying Public, Stakeholders, Budget Constraints, Change Readiness to Meet Constant Stream of New Challenges, and Decision-Making – e.g., Risk-Based Decision-Making Strategic Initiative.
For certificate-holders, this realignment does not impact certificates or interactions with the FAA employees who currently manage certificates. A quick reference to areas of responsibility has been provided. However, if a certificate-holder is unable to resolve an issue through its normal channels, there is a Rapid Response Team available to assist. The contact information is:
