President Extends DOT Provision of Aviation Insurance Coverage

PRESIDENT EXTENDS DOT PROVISION OF AVIATION INSURANCE COVERAGE

On September 27, 2012, President Obama issued an Administrative Order approving the continuation of government-provided aviation insurance and reinsurance to U.S.-certificated air carriers pursuant to chapter 443 of title 49 of the U.S. Code.  DOT-provided insurance and reinsurance coverage is extended through September 20, 2013 by this Administrative Order.  If the Secretary of Transportation determines that coverage for loss or damage arising out of any risk from the operation of an aircraft is not available to air carriers on reasonable terms, he has the authority to further extend the coverage through December 31, 2013.
