NTSB Announces Review of Regulations

NTSB ANNOUNCES REVIEW OF REGULATIONS

Today, the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) announced that it will undertake a review of all NTSB regulations.  The review will be conducted pursuant to Executive Order 13579, which requests independent agencies issue public plans for periodic retrospective analysis of their existing “significant regulations.”

NTSB identified 49 CFR Part 831, involving invitation to outside entities to assist with an investigation as a “party,” as a regulatory portion that may contain significant regulations.  NTSB proposes to review Part 831 within the next six (6) months to determine if any sections could be modified, streamlined, expanded, or repealed.

After conclusion of any rulemaking activity, NTSB will undertake a biennial review of Part 831 to ensure no regulations are outmoded, ineffective, insufficient, or excessively burdensome.  Following biennial review, NTSB will provide opportunity for public comment regarding regulations that are ripe for formal public review.

NTSB encourages public comment on any of its regulations in 49 CFR, including Part 831. Comments are due on or before August 24, 2012.; If you need help in preparation or submission of comments or have any questions regarding NTSB regulations, please contact our office.
