The National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) recently announced that on August 3, 2015 it will convene a meeting of a multistakeholder process concerning privacy, transparency, and accountability issues regarding commercial and private use of unmanned aircraft systems (UAS). Additional meetings will be held on September 24, 2015; October 21, 2015; and November 20, 2015.
Congress has recognized the potential wide-ranging benefits of UAS operations such as, providing a variety of commercial services less expensively than manned aircraft. Congress plans to integrate civil UAS into the National airspace system (NAS) by 2015.
In the meeting stakeholders will engage in an open, transparent, consensus driven process to develop the best practices for privacy, accountability, and transparency issues regarding commercial and private UAS use in the NAS.
