FAA Reopens Comment Period for AOPA/EAA Petition for Exemption

FAA REOPENS COMMENT PERIOD FOR AOPA/EAA PETITION FOR EXEMPTION

Today, FAA reopened the comment period for a petition for exemption from Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA) and Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA).  If the petition for exemption is granted, AOPA and EAA members could conduct certain aircraft operations without holding an FAA-issued medical certificate.

The petition submitted by AOPA/EAA seeks an exemption from 14 CFR 61.3(c) and 61.23(a) to allow AOPA/EAA members flying recreationally ‒ according to certain operational limitations and restrictions ‒ to fly without having to hold an FAA-issued medical certificate of any .  A summary of the AOPA/EAA petition was originally published in the Federal Register on June 12, 2012.   

Following a request from AOPA/EAA, FAA reopened the comment period until September 14, 2012.  If you would like help with the preparation or submission of comments or have any questions regarding the petition for exemption, please contact our office.
