FAA Publishes Clarification of Flightcrew Member Duty and Rest Requirements

FAA PUBLISHES CLARIFICATION OF FLIGHTCREW MEMBER DUTY AND REST REQUIREMENTS

Earlier this week, FAA published a Clarification of the Flightcrew Member Duty and Rest Requirements Final Rule.

On January 4, 2012, the FAA published a final rule entitled, Flightcrew Member Duty and Rest Requirements.  In the rule, FAA created new 14 CFR Part 117, which replaces the existing flight, duty, and rest regulations for passenger operations, contained in 14 CFR Part 121 Subparts Q, R, and S.  As part of this rulemaking, FAA also applied the new 14 CFR part 117 to certain 14 CFR Part 91 operations, and permitted all-cargo operations operating under 14 CFR Part 121 to voluntarily opt into the Part 117 flight, duty, and rest regulations.  On April 5, 2012, FAA published a Notice explaining the procedures for submitting clarifying questions concerning the flight, duty, and rest regulations.  Since then, FAA received numerous questions concerning the new regulations.  The Clarification published this week addresses those questions.
