FAA Details Procedure For Requesting Assistance In Seeking Air Traffic Data From Government Contractors

FAA DETAILS PROCEDURE FOR REQUESTING ASSISTANCE IN SEEKING AIR TRAFFIC DATA FROM GOVERNMENT CONTRACTORS

Today, the FAA specified how and where an airman may request its assistance in seeking air traffic data from government contractors.  Pursuant to the Pilot’s Bill of Rights (PBR) enacted earlier this month, air traffic data should be made accessible to airman subject to FAA investigation when such data will facilitate the individual’s ability to participate in a proceeding related to an FAA investigation.  This includes air traffic data in possession of government contactors providing operational services to the FAA.

In the near future, FAA will include a PBR hyperlink on its Internet Web page.  Individuals subject to investigation may access the hyperlink to find out information the FAA needs to process requests for air traffic data.  The FAA Web site will also include an email address where the airman can send requests for contractor air traffic data.

For an individual’s request to be meaningful, FAA recommends requests be expeditiously received at a centralized location by FAA personnel who are trained to process requests.  In addition requests must be submitted to the government contractor before it disposal in the normal course of business.  FAA personnel will check for submissions made to AirmanDataRequest@faa.gov, and forward such requests to appropriate government contractors.

When making requests, individuals must: 1) describe the facility at which such information is located; and 2) identify the date on which the information was generated.  It is important for individuals to provide as must detail as possible regarding the air traffic data.  Such detail may include time of aircraft operation, the heading of the aircraft, and altitude.

If you have any questions regarding the PBR or would like assistance in submitting a request for air traffic data, please contact our office.
