DOT Issues Final Rule for Airports Regarding Service Animal Relief Areas, Audio-Visual Displays, and Passenger Lifts

On August 4, 2015 the Department of Transportation (DOT) published a final rulemaking regarding Accessibility of Airports.  It includes new provisions for service animal relief areas and captioning of televisions and audio-visual displays that are similar to existing requirements applicable to U.S.

On July 21, 2015 the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) announced that it was canceling previous policies pertaining to LHFE flights and was lifting its moratorium on new requests for permission to operate LHFE flights.

Services Provided in Oceanic Airspace

On July 1, 2015, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) published a notice informing airspace users of the type of air traffic control (ATC) service provided in the oceanic airspace controlled by the U.S consistent with the obligations under the Convention on International Civil Aviation (Chicago Convention). Under the Chicago Convention all contracting States are required to disseminate information regarding the types of ATC services provided in oceanic airspace under their control.

FAA Issues Final Rule on Repair Stations

FAA ISSUES FINAL RULE ON REPAIR STATIONS

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) issued a final rule amending its repair station regulations (14 CFR part 145).  In addition to certain technical corrections, the final rule:

  • Amends sections 145.51 and 145.53 to allow FAA to deny an application for a new repair station certificate based on past performance by an applicant or certain key personnel;

NTSB ISSUES PROPOSED RULES ON INVESTIGATIVE PROCEDURES

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) issues a notice of proposed rulemaking to amend its regulations regarding investigative procedures (49 CFR part 831).  Proposed changes include reorganizing Part 831 into mode-specific subparts, as follows:

Subpart A: General (applicable to all investigations)

  • Subpart B: Aviation Investigations

  • Subpart C: Highway Investigations
